COD Guard Terms of Service

Last updated: July 31, 2026

1. Agreement

These terms govern your use of COD Guard (the "Service"), a Shopify embedded app operated by the COD Guard operator ("we", "us"). By installing COD Guard on your Shopify store you ("Merchant") accept these terms. If you do not accept them, uninstall the app.

COD Guard is also subject to Shopify's own terms — installation, billing, and app permissions are administered by Shopify.

2. What the Service does

COD Guard subscribes to your store's orders/create and orders/updated webhooks. For each order it evaluates the customer's phone number, email address, and shipping address, and produces a risk score from 0 to 100. Orders at or above your configured threshold are tagged in Shopify Admin (cod-guard-low-risk, cod-guard-medium-risk, or cod-guard-high-risk) and listed in the COD Guard dashboard.

The Service is advisory. It does not block checkout, delay fulfillment, or cancel orders on its own. Cancelling an order is a manual action you take from the COD Guard dashboard, and it uses Shopify's own order-cancellation flow. Every decision to ship, hold, call, or cancel remains yours.

Address validation is currently tuned for Vietnam. Orders outside supported countries still receive phone and email validation, and address checks fall back gracefully rather than failing the order.

3. Plans, trial, and billing

  • Starter — $6.99/month or $66.99/year, up to 500 scanned orders per billing period.
  • Growth — $14.99/month or $142.99/year, unlimited scanned orders.

All charges are processed through the Shopify Billing API and appear on your Shopify invoice. We never see or store your payment details. Prices are in USD and exclude any taxes Shopify may apply.

A 14-day free trial is granted once per Shopify store. Switching plans, reinstalling, or resubscribing does not reset the trial; any days remaining from the original trial carry over.

Plan changes take effect through Shopify's subscription flow. We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email or in-app notice; continued use after the change takes effect is acceptance of the new price.

4. Order limits

On the Starter plan, orders beyond the 500-order allowance in a billing period are recorded but not scanned. They are marked unscanned, excluded from the review queue, and any stale COD Guard risk tag is removed from them. Scanning resumes at the start of the next billing period, or immediately if you upgrade to Growth.

5. Your responsibilities

  • You must have the authority to install apps on the store and to share its order data with the Service.
  • You are responsible for how you act on a risk score, including any decision to contact, refuse, or cancel a customer's order, and for complying with consumer-protection and anti-discrimination law in your market.
  • Blocklist entries you add must be based on your own legitimate fraud experience, not on protected characteristics.
  • You must not resell, sublicense, or expose the Service to third parties, attempt to reverse-engineer it, or use it to build a competing product.
  • You must not attempt to overload, probe, or circumvent the Service's rate limits, authentication, or plan limits.

6. Data and privacy

COD Guard processes customer name, phone, email, and shipping address only, acting as a data processor on your behalf. Retention, deletion, GDPR webhook handling, and subprocessors are described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

7. Availability and support

We aim to keep the Service continuously available but do not offer a contractual uptime guarantee. Maintenance, Shopify API changes, or third-party outages may interrupt scanning. Orders that arrive during an interruption are processed when the Service recovers where Shopify webhook delivery allows.

Support is provided by email at support@cod-guard.com. Growth plan merchants receive priority response.

8. Disclaimer

COD Guard is a heuristic risk-scoring tool, not a guarantee. It will miss some fraudulent orders (false negatives) and flag some legitimate ones (false positives). The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for lost profits, lost revenue, refused or fraudulent orders, shipping costs, goodwill, or any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim.

10. Cancellation and termination

You can cancel at any time by uninstalling COD Guard from your Shopify Admin. Uninstalling stops future charges through Shopify; charges already billed for the current period are not refunded. Your data is deleted as described in the Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate access for non-payment, for breach of these terms, or if required by Shopify, with notice by email where practical.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced by email or in-app notice at least 30 days before they take effect, and the "last updated" date above will change. Continued use after that date is acceptance.

12. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Questions about these terms go to support@cod-guard.com.
