Frequently asked questions
Everything we get asked about COD Guard. Don't see your question? Email hiendinhngoc@gmail.com.
How does the risk score work?
Every order receives a 0–100 score on three weighted signals: phone format (35%), email validity and disposability (25%), and address verification (40%). When an address can't be checked, the weights fall back to phone (68.75%) and email (31.25%). Anything at or above your configured threshold gets a Shopify tag for review.
What happens to flagged orders?
Flagged orders get a Shopify tag in your Admin: cod-guard-medium-risk (40–69) or cod-guard-high-risk (≥70). They aren't blocked, cancelled, or hidden from your fulfillment flow — you decide whether to call the customer, hold the package, or ship as normal.
Will it slow down my store?
No. Validation runs asynchronously after Shopify accepts the order. The webhook is acknowledged within ~200ms and the actual validation happens in a background job. Checkout speed is unaffected.
What countries does COD Guard support today?
Vietnam at launch — the address validator has a built-in province list (both current and pre-2025-reform names) and phone normalization for VN numbers. The system is structured to add Southeast Asian countries (MY, ID, TH, PH) without code changes, just data. International orders still get phone and email validation; address validation falls back gracefully.
How long does installation take?
Under two minutes. Click Install from the Shopify App Store, accept the requested scopes (read orders, write orders, read customers), and the app starts scanning your next order. No code, no webhook configuration, no checkout changes.
What if a legitimate customer gets flagged?
The order isn't blocked — only tagged. If you're seeing false positives, you can raise the risk threshold from the default of 70 up to 80 in Settings, which makes COD Guard more conservative. You can also add specific phone numbers or emails to a per-shop allowlist (planned for v1.1).
How does COD Guard handle my customers' data?
We process customer name, phone, email, and shipping address — nothing else. No payment info, no order line items. Data is deleted within 48 days of uninstall via Shopify's shop/redact webhook. Full detail in the Privacy Policy.
Is the free plan really free?
Yes. The Starter plan covers up to 500 orders per month forever, with the same 3-layer validation and Shopify tagging as Growth. No credit card. Past 500 orders/month you'll need Growth ($9.99/month) for unlimited orders.
Can I customize the risk threshold?
Yes — Settings lets you set a threshold between 20 and 80. The default is 70. Lower thresholds flag more orders (catches more fraud, more false positives); higher thresholds flag fewer (cleaner, may miss borderline cases).
How do I cancel?
Uninstall COD Guard from the Shopify Admin. No questions, no contract. Your data is deleted within 48 days per the Privacy Policy.
